How do Banks Work?

For those who don't already know and understand how banks work, it would be helpful to provide a few resources. If you don't know that, consider yourself in good company. Only a small minority of people truly know even the basics of how banks work, which is unfortunate, as few institutions touch our lives more pervasively.

We have located a number of easy to understand resources that can quickly give you a much better sense of how banks work and from that, you can more easily understand the significance of what publicly owned banks can do for our society and economy.

  1. "Money as Debt" by Paul Grignon. An  entertaining, animated 5 part video series.  Mr. Grignon also also has a newer version entitled Money as Debt II: Promises Unleashed.  www.moneyasdebt.net.

  2. Department of Banking for the State of Connecticut.  A series of articles entitled ABCs of Banking.

  3. TheUnjustMedia.com. This site's section on banking contains useful information that is easy to absorb and informative.
